Position Summary
The Firefighter protects life and property by responding to fires, medical emergencies, rescue incidents, hazardous materials incidents, and other emergency and non-emergency calls for service. This position performs fire suppression, emergency medical care, rescue operations, fire prevention activities, equipment maintenance, and station duties while working as part of a team. Firefighters are expected to complete required training and provide professional, courteous service to the public while following department policies and procedures.
Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

Successful completion of a Basic Firefighter training program.

Valid Tennessee driver’s license.

Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs as needed.
Responsibilities
-
Respond to fire alarms, medical emergencies, rescue incidents, hazardous materials incidents, and other emergency calls.

Perform fire suppression, rescue, and emergency response activities.

Provide emergency medical care and basic first aid as required.

Operate and maintain firefighting apparatus, equipment, tools, and vehicles.

Participate in fire prevention activities, inspections, and public education programs as assigned.

Inspect, clean, and maintain fire stations, apparatus, equipment, and supplies.

Participate in required training, drills, continuing education, and certification programs.

Maintain knowledge of firefighting techniques and applicable federal, state, and county laws, regulations, and department policies.

Effectively communicate with supervisors, coworkers, other emergency responders, and the public.

Accurately complete required reports and documentation.

Follow departmental policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions & Physical Demand
-
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments under a wide variety of weather conditions.
-
Frequently exposed to smoke, heat, fire, hazardous materials, loud noise, moving traffic, bloodborne pathogens, and other hazardous conditions encountered during emergency response.

Must be able to wear and work in personal protective equipment (PPE), including a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), for extended periods.

Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, drag, climb, crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, and work in confined spaces and at elevated heights.

Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity for extended periods while carrying firefighting equipment and wearing protective gear.

Requires the ability to operate firefighting apparatus, emergency equipment, power tools, and other specialized equipment safely and effectively.

Must maintain the physical and mental stamina necessary to respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations.
