Do we accept tires?

When you purchase new tires, you pay the dealers a disposal fee. You leave your old tires with the dealer. If you are responsible for disposal of the tires, you may bring the tires to the Recycling Center. You are responsible for “stacking” tires inside a tractor trailer. Employees do not unload or stack tires for you, so you may need to bring someone to help you.

Tire dealers Must have the State Tire Manifest paperwork and Tire and Tax Number from the State of Tennessee. This number is different from your business Tax Identification Number. You must have this information each time you bring tires. Call before bringing tires to ensure we have room in the tractor trailer.

2026 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event

Roane County will host a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This free event, sponsored by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), provides residents with a safe and responsible way to dispose of unwanted household chemicals and hazardous materials.

Household Hazardous Waste includes materials that are corrosive, flammable, toxic, or reactive and are commonly used in your home, garage, vehicle, lawn, or garden. Items such as household cleaners (drain openers, oven cleaners, disinfectants), paint thinners and strippers, lawn and garden chemicals (herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers), automotive fluids (gasoline, diesel fuel, coolants), aerosols, fluorescent light bulbs, mercury thermometers, and needles or sharps in puncture-proof containers will be accepted. This event offers an important opportunity to clean out garages, basements, and storage buildings while helping protect public health and the environment.

Please note that explosives, ammunition, radioactive waste (including smoke detectors), empty containers, and waste from non-household sources will not be accepted. Businesses, schools, farms, churches, and other non-household generators may participate by appointment only by calling 615-643-3170 to request a price quote and schedule a drop-off. Additionally, alkaline batteries, latex paint, oil, antifreeze, and electronics are not accepted at this event but may be eligible for year-round collection programs.

For additional details, including a complete list of acceptable and unacceptable materials, please visit Tennessee Household Hazardous Waste Program (HHW).
