Schedule: 24-hour shifts (24 on / 48 off)
Estimated First-Year Earnings: $57,000–$61,000 based on the regular shift schedule, with additional overtime opportunities available.
Position Summary
Roane County is seeking dedicated and compassionate Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to join our Office of Emergency Services. EMTs are essential members of our emergency response team, providing high-quality pre-hospital emergency medical care, patient assessment, treatment, and safe transportation in accordance with Tennessee EMS standards. This position requires a strong commitment to public service, clinical excellence, professionalism, and compassionate patient care.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Tennessee EMT License (must include current AHA-approved CPR certification)
- Valid Tennessee Driver’s License
- Knowledge of the Tennessee EMS Scope of Practice
- Excellent interpersonal communication and documentation skills
- Ability to perform the physical demands of emergency medical services, including lifting and moving patients and equipment
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions in emergency situations
Additional Certifications (Preferred):
- Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC)
- Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) or equivalent pediatric training
Responsibilities
- Respond promptly and professionally to emergency and non-emergency medical calls
- Assess patients and provide emergency medical care within the Tennessee EMT Scope of Practice
- Safely transport patients to appropriate medical facilities
- Assist Paramedics with advanced life support procedures as needed
- Complete accurate and timely patient care reports and documentation
- Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and cleaning of ambulances, equipment, and station facilities
- Maintain inventory and readiness of medical supplies and equipment
- Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements
- Participate in continuing education, training, and quality improvement activities
- Follow all Roane County EMS policies, protocols, and medical direction
- Assist with public education, community outreach, and special events as assigned
Working Conditions and Physical Demand
- Work is performed in varied settings including outdoors, in homes, and healthcare facilities
- Must be able to lift and carry equipment and patients in challenging conditions
- Exposure to a range of environmental and weather conditions
- Required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Must be able to operate independently in high-pressure emergency scenarios
