The Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Harriman campus hosted a groundbreaking ceremony today. Roane County Executive Wade Creswell, local leaders, and educators, joined together to mark the start of a significant campus expansion.

The project will add a 50,000-square-foot building, featuring advanced training facilities, specialized labs, and modern classrooms. These new facilities will support high-demand programs in fields like advanced manufacturing, information technology, and healthcare.

Executive Creswell highlighted the expansion’s potential to reshape the region’s workforce. “Today, we’re not just breaking ground; we’re laying the foundation for a brighter future, with top-tier vocational training available right here in our community,” Creswell said.

The expansion is expected to create over 100 new jobs and stimulate economic growth by attracting businesses to Roane County. The project is the result of a collaboration among local officials, educators, and community stakeholders. State legislators, local business leaders, and representatives from the Tennessee Board of Regents attended the ceremony, reflecting the broad support for the initiative. Executive Creswell thanked all involved, saying, “This achievement shows what we can do when we unite around a shared vision.”

As the event concluded, Executive Creswell and other officials performed the ceremonial shovel dig, officially starting construction. The new facilities are expected to open in late 2025, with classes beginning soon after.

“This is more than an investment in education,” Creswell concluded. “It’s an investment in our future and the promise of opportunity for every resident of Roane County.”

Congratulations to TCAT Harriman on this exciting new chapter. The positive impact this expansion will bring is truly something to celebrate.
