Roane County residents will soon see another major investment take shape in our region as LIS Technologies announced plans to invest approximately $1.38 billion to build a laser uranium enrichment facility at the former K-25 site in Oak Ridge. The project is expected to create more than 200 high-quality jobs and represents one of the largest nuclear-related investments in Tennessee’s history.

This announcement builds on a series of recent economic development projects tied to Oak Ridge’s long-standing role in nuclear science, advanced manufacturing, and national security. Over the past year, Roane County and the Oak Ridge area have seen continued growth connected to federal investments, private-sector expansion, and renewed focus on domestic energy production.

The LIS Technologies facility will use U.S.-developed laser enrichment technology and will support the nation’s nuclear fuel supply, next-generation reactor development, and energy reliability. Company and state officials cited Oak Ridge’s infrastructure, skilled workforce, and historic connection to the nuclear industry as key reasons for selecting the site.

State leaders, including Governor Bill Lee and the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, joined local and regional partners in highlighting the project’s long-term economic impact. For Roane County residents, the investment signals continued momentum for job creation, workforce opportunities, and regional growth tied to advanced energy industries.

Roane County Executive Wade Creswell stated, “This investment will create high-quality jobs and further position our community as a key contributor to the nation’s advanced energy and nuclear sectors.”

Additional details about the announcement, including project timelines and statewide economic impact, are available through the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development.
