Roane County Government
Register of Deeds is a Constitutional office established by the State Legislature as the custodian of legal documents pertaining to real property. These documents include Warranty Deeds, Deeds of Trust, Releases, Powers of Attorney, Liens, Subdivision Restrictions, Military Discharges and other miscellaneous documents designated by state law to be recorded by the Register of Deeds. The Register is elected by the people and serves a four-year term. The office is located within the county seat.
All records in the Register’s office are public record with the exception of Military Discharges although the records must remain in the office at all times.
The Register of Deeds, Sharon Brackett, was elected August 2006 and took office September 1, 2006. Prior to taking office on September 1st, she served Roane County as a Deputy Register since 1992.
The goal of the Roane County Register of Deeds office is to record and maintain the records. The office is currently working to digitize the record books. Roane County records date back to 1801.
