In an initiative to enhance community health and safety, Roane County Solid Waste and Recycling has partnered with the Roane County Anti- Drug Coalition (RCADC) to raise awareness about the proper disposal of expired or unused medications. As part of this collaboration, informative signs will be placed at every convenience center across Roane County, guiding residents on how to safely dispose of these potentially harmful substances. The first sign was installed today at the Swan Pond convenience center by representatives from the RCADC and Roane County Government.
Why Proper Disposal Matters
The safe disposal of medications is crucial for preventing accidental ingestion, misuse, and environmental contamination. Many people are unaware of the risks associated with improperly discarded medications, which can lead to dangerous situations in households, particularly for children and pets. By placing clear signage at convenience centers, Roane County aims to empower residents with the knowledge needed to protect themselves and the community.
Upcoming Take Back Day
As part of their ongoing efforts, the RCADC is excited to announce their bi-annual DEA National Take Back Day on October 26, from 10 AM to 2 PM in the Kroger parking lot in Harriman. This event provides a safe, convenient, and anonymous way for residents to dispose of their unused medications, including the newly accepted vape devices. It’s a fantastic opportunity to clean out your medicine cabinets and safely rid your home of items that could pose a risk.
Important Collection Details
- What to Bring: Unused or expired medications and vape devices.
- What Not to Bring: Syringes or inhalers will not be accepted during the collection.
- Safety and Anonymity: All collections are 100% safe and anonymous, ensuring that residents can participate without concern.
