The Planning Department administers zoning regulations, subdivision reviews, and development proposals to ensure compliance with county ordinances and adopted plans. Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals meetings are held regularly and provide a public forum for reviewing development proposals and zoning-related requests.
The Roane County Planning Department is responsible for administering and enforcing zoning regulations in the unincorporated areas of the county to ensure orderly development and consistency with adopted land use plans. Within the incorporated cities of Kingston, Harriman, and Rockwood, zoning is governed by each municipality; however, the county works closely with these cities to support coordinated planning efforts, regional growth management, and consistent development standards where appropriate.
