Radiant Selects Roane County to Build World’s First Mass-Produced Nuclear Generator Factory
Company to invest $280 million in Oak Ridge, creating 175 new jobs
ROANE COUNTY, Tenn. – Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Stuart McWhorter, and Roane County Executive Wade Creswell announced today that Radiant Industries has selected the Oak Ridge Corridor for a new manufacturing and research and development facility.
Radiant will invest $280 million to build its factory in Roane County, where it will create 175 high-quality jobs to support the mass production of its Kaleidos, the world’s first one-megawatt portable nuclear generator. The Kaleidos is a next-generation clean energy solution designed to provide resilient power for military applications, disaster relief scenarios, and remote communities.
The project represents another major win for Tennessee’s growing nuclear ecosystem and is the sixth company to locate in the state utilizing the Governor’s Nuclear Energy Fund. The fund, which has grown to $70 million, is a key component of the state’s strategy to lead the nation in advanced energy technologies.
Radiant’s decision marks the latest in a series of historic announcements for the region. In the last three years, the Oak Ridge Corridor has attracted world-leading nuclear companies including Oklo, Orano, Kairos Power, and Type One Fusion, resulting in over $10 billion in pledged capital investment and the creation of more than 2,500 new, high-paying jobs. This momentum solidifies the Corridor as the unquestioned center of America’s nuclear renaissance.
A key driver of this success is the Oak Ridge Corridor Development Corporation (ORCDC), a joint economic development partnership between Roane County, Anderson County, and the City of Oak Ridge. As a charter member, Roane County is actively collaborating with its regional partners to recruit and support the nuclear energy ecosystem, ensuring the entire region is prepared for this generational opportunity.
“I’m excited to welcome Radiant to Roane County – the most nuclear-friendly community in the country,” said Roane County Executive Wade Creswell. “Their mission and purpose align perfectly with our community’s history, acceptance, and experienced workforce in nuclear energy. Radiant will serve as a key player within the nuclear ecosystem being developed within the Oak Ridge Corridor. We are proud to welcome you home.”
“Tennessee is quickly emerging as the national leader in clean, reliable energy production. That’s why innovative companies like Radiant are choosing our state for cutting-edge manufacturing and R&D,” said Governor Bill Lee. “I’m proud to welcome Radiant to the Tennessee family and look forward to the vital role this company will play on the global stage, producing what will become the world’s first nuclear microreactor from right here in Oak Ridge.”
“We chose Oak Ridge, Tennessee, because of their strong workforce, the community’s rich nuclear heritage and the public’s second-to-none nuclear IQ,” said Tori Shivanandan, Chief Operating Officer, Radiant.“Just as importantly, the state’s business-friendly environment gave us the immediate regulatory certainty we needed to move fast and be up and running to meet growing customer demand for our Kaleidos nuclear generators. We’re excited to start building in just a few months.”
