On the evening of November 5, 2024, Roane County held its 18th Annual Founders’ Day celebration, a longstanding tradition that honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the community. At this year’s event, five remarkable people were named the 2024 Roane County Treasures, an esteemed recognition reserved for those whose selfless service and dedication have helped shape the county’s success and character.

A “Roane County Treasure” is more than just an honorary title—it is a recognition of individuals whose actions, over the course of many years, have made an enduring positive impact in the community. Nominees for this award are chosen by the Roane County Commissioners, who consider a range of contributions, from volunteerism to leadership, from fostering education to advocating for the well-being of residents. These individuals represent the best of Roane County, embodying the spirit of service, integrity, and progress.

The 2024 Roane County Treasures include:

  • Jerry White
  • Carolyn Bush Roddy
  • Gary Newby
  • David “Peabody” Ledford
  • Dr. Julian Ahler

The recipient of the Golden Treasure honor, Dr. Julian Ahler, was recognized for his decades of service to healthcare and community in Roane County. The Golden Treasure award, a particularly prestigious distinction, is presented to an individual whose contributions have had an especially profound and lasting effect on the community. In addition to his successful career in medicine, Dr. Julian Ahler has served as a Harriman City Council member, is a current member of the Harriman Lions Club and the Harriman Rotary Club. Dr. Julian Ahler is also the principal fundraiser for the Harriman Riverfront Park Gazebo.

The evening’s ceremony was a heartfelt tribute to these remarkable individuals, whose efforts are woven into the fabric of Roane County’s success and resilience. The 2024 Roane County Treasures serve as an inspiration to all, exemplifying the true meaning of community, commitment, and service. Congratulations to these outstanding individuals whose work continues to elevate Roane County!

We owe a special thank you to Judge Terry Stephens, who stepped in at the last minute to deliver a warm welcome and introduce the 2024 honorees on behalf of County Executive Wade Creswell, who was unable to attend due to illness.
